Miss Newberry-Wall’s Autumn Term 1 Class News!

We have had a very busy start to the year! Our topic this term was ‘Marvellous Me’, where the children learned all about themselves.

During ‘body parts week’, we had help to label each body part by singing the song ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’- we even tried singing it in Welsh! The children had to work very hard by helping to take care of baby Dafydd during ‘the stages of life week’. Together, we changed his nappy, gave him a bottle and learned how to bath a baby. For ‘Feelings Week’, we made faces for our weetabix using different types of fruit. We created a lovely family tree throughout ‘family week’ and made stick men during our Fun Forest Friday (inspired by the book Stick Man). For ‘Celebrations week’ we celebrated Shwmae Sh’mae day by tasting Welsh cakes and speaking the beautiful Welsh language. In addition, we planned a party for Cariad’s birthday! Finally, we looked at our beautiful community, and realised how lucky we are to live in such a lovely area.

Miss Newberry-Wall and Mrs Gray are proud of the way the children have all settled down and in to school life. Don’t forget to keep up to date with everything your child is doing in school by signing up to see-saw and checking twitter. Have a lovely half term; enjoy Halloween but stay safe!

Year 5&6 Residential Trip!

What an amazing week we had at ‘Rock UK’ for our residential. All the children really enjoyed their fun packed week!

We started the week off completing trust exercises where the children were blind folded and had to be directed down a steep hill and could only listen to their partners voice to guide them.

Then we were able to go into the ‘Summit Center’s’ man made cave to find our way out through squeezing through and crawling through the small holes.

On Wednesday we had an amazing time kayaking which all children really enjoyed, even though some lost their balance and ended up in the water!!

We also did abseiling and went on a fantastic aerial adventure course which really tested some of our fears.

Year 5&6 went on a wonderful night walk and a beautiful walk down to the lakes.

An amazing experience for the children! We all can’t wait for next year already!

Miss Thomas’ Autumn Term 1 Class News 2018!

What a fantastic start to our school year! All the children have settled in well and have adjusted to their new year groups.
We have started a fantastic topic, ‘Revolution!’ We’re delving into the past and learning all about the Victorians. So far we have found out the key events during Victorian times, wrote a recount of our trip to St Fagans, created a database on famous Victorian people and completed an investigation on our heart rate during Victorian drills compared to modern day activities. There’s plenty more to find out when we come back after half term.
We’ve had a very busy half term! Our trip to St Fagans was fantastic as we were able to go into the Victorian school and role play as Victorian children. Some of the children had a shock! We have also started our Wizard League netball and rugby tournaments.
Our residential week away to ‘Rock UK’ has been our highlight! We went caving, abseiling, kayaking and completed lots of outside activities. Everyone really enjoyed their week and the year 5’s can’t wait for next year already!!
We hope everyone has a lovely half term! Don’t forget to keep up to date with what is going on in class with ‘SeeSaw’ and ‘Class Dojo.

Mrs Quinn’s Autumn Term 1 Class News 2018!

This half term our topic ‘Let’s be friends’ has been all about friendship, kindness and looking after each other. It has been wonderful to see all the children playing so nicely together and making new friends.

As part of our topic we learnt and performed the fable ‘The Lion and the Mouse.’ We hope you enjoyed watching our performance on Seesaw. also read the book ‘Have you filled a Bucket today?’ and worked hard to be ‘Bucket Fillers,’ filling each other’s buckets with random acts of kindness. We made friendship bracelets and paper hearts for a special friend and worked together to create a special friendship quilt. We finished off our topic by planning and preparing a giant friendship picnic.

We have had a great response to homework this half term! Thank you all for your hard work and to all the parents that have shared homework with us via Seesaw. It has been wonderful to share everyone’s homework videos and photos with the whole class.

Year 5&6 St Fagans Trip!

We had a fantastic time in St Fagans with Glyncorrwg Primary and Pen Afan Primary! Our topic this term is ‘Revolution’ which is all about the Victorians. We were able to walk around St Fagans to see all of the houses and buildings through the eras and especially the buildings during the Victorian era. We were taken back in time as we were able to role play in the Victorian school to find out what school was like compared to now. I think we preferred school today!
