Mrs Davies’s Spring Term 1 Class News!

Year 4, 5 & 6

Stargazers!

What a fantastic start to the New Year! We have settled back into school after our Christmas break and have been busy bees!  We have started a fantastic topic, ‘Stargazers!’ We have been fascinated by this topic so far and all the children have found it really interesting! So far we have researched space, answered tricky numeracy problem solving questions, interrogated a database and have written a report on a planet. We have also completed fun challenges everyday so you can check these out on our SeeSaw accounts! There’s plenty more to find out when we come back after half term and we can’t wait!

The year 5&6’s went on their fun filled residential trip to Margam Park! We had an amazing time and enjoyed all the activities! We were able to go on a beautiful walk in the sunshine, find and categorise bugs, go pond dipping, complete a survival day and do lots of fun science activities! It’s an amazing experience for the children and we can’t wait to go next year already!

We hope everyone has a lovely half term! Don’t forget to keep up to date with what is going on in class with ‘SeeSaw’ and ‘Class Dojo.

Mrs Quinn’s Spring Term 1 Class News!

Reception/Year 1

Our topic for this term is ‘Paws, Claws and Whiskers’ and we have had lots of fun finding out about pets and learning about what they need and how to look after them.

Our first visitor was Henry, Mrs Quinn’s cocker spaniel. Henry was the first customer into our class vets and sat very still while Vet Preston gave him a thorough health check.

We went on a little visit to the fabulous Ty Nant Cat Sanctuary in Cymmer to find out about the work they do to look after cats and kittens and find them a forever home. Thank you all for your kind donations; they were gratefully received by Ty Nant.

Eliza brought in her Tortoises Bruce and Eric for a visit. They spent the day with us and were totally spoilt rotten, with the children feeding them healthy treats, making dens for them and building them an assault course.

We didn’t make it to Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm this week due to the nasty storm, but we have rearranged it for after half term when hopefully the weather will be better for an outdoor visit. We can’t wait to meet and interview the Tiger Keeper in preparation for next half terms project.

Have a lovely half term everyone.

WE ARE A GREEN FLAG ECO SCHOOL!

The eco committee have some amazing news…

We are now a GREEN FLAG ECO SCHOOL! We have worked very hard this year to attain the green flag and we can officially say that we have achieved it! Matt from Eco Schools Wales visited us on Friday and he said that he was very impressed with our school. We were so over the moon with the news that we had to call an emergency eco assembly to tell the whole school!

All the hard work doesn’t stop there though! We will continue to give our best this year to make our school a better place. We can’t wait for our next challenge!

1940’s Museum Trip!

We had a fantastic day at the 1940’s Swansea Museum! We traveled back in time and walked the 1940’s streets dressed as children from World War Two! We were able to find out lots of interesting facts by completing the quiz and watching a documentary.

Mrs Quinn’s Class News!

           Reception/Year 1

What a great start to the new school year it’s been with all our Reception children settled into full time school really quickly.

Our topic this term is ‘Are we there yet?’ and we’ve been finding out about transport and journeys. We all enjoyed a wonderful trip to Swansea Marina where we went on an amazing boat trip on The Copper Jack, visited The Waterfront museum and Swansea Transport Museum to see lots of really old vehicles.

We have learnt the story of Mr Gumpy’s Outing, performed it in front of an audience and even innovated the story to create our own version.

Chloe came to visit us from the NPT Road Safety Team and taught us all about Road and Seatbelt Safety.

We have had lots of fun in our Forest Schools sessions this half term. Thank you again to our super PTA group ‘Friends of Cymer’ for fundraising and buying us our great waterproof suits that have kept us clean and dry.

Everyone has been working hard on their handwriting this half term and even though we have only been using the cursive style for a few weeks we are seeing a huge improvement already. Keep up the hard work everyone.
